The Protocol is named after George Herbert, a decorated war veteran of the Normandy landings who was living with dementia. George continually went missing from his care home and the police would have to find him. Norfolk Constabulary developed the protocol to help people living with dementia who had gone missing to get back to a place of safety as quickly as possible. The protocol originally focused on people in care homes, but in 2015 it was extended to include individuals living in their own home with dementia.
Safe and Found Online is an online version of the Herbert Protocol. We have created a digital platform where instead of filling in a form on paper or creating a computer file, you can register a profile on this website. Just like any social media profile you can also attach photos and documents, making as many changes as you like.
We want to give people living with dementia, their families and carers, the confidence that if they or the person they care for gets lost, the Police will have the best information possible to start looking for them right away.
